1. Who we are

Movexa ("we", "us", "our") is a service operated by Matech ( matechcorp.net). This policy explains what personal data we collect when you use movexa.matechcorp.net and how we use it.

2. Data we collect

When you create an account and use Movexa, we collect:

  • Account data: email address, username, display name, first and last name, date of birth, country.
  • Profile data: profile picture (avatar), bio, favourite genres and titles.
  • Usage data: movies and TV shows you mark as watched, ratings, watchlist, viewing history and statistics.
  • Social data: followers, following, lists you create or share.
  • Technical data: IP address, browser type, device type, session tokens, and log data for security and debugging purposes.
  • Payment data: if you subscribe to Movexa Pro, payment is processed by Stripe. We do not store card numbers. We store your subscription status and Stripe customer ID.

If you sign in with Google or Apple, we receive your name, email address and profile picture from that provider. We do not receive your password.

3. How we use your data

  • To create and manage your account.
  • To provide the tracking, statistics and social features of Movexa.
  • To send you notifications you have opted into (new episodes, wishlist releases, new followers).
  • To process payments and manage your subscription.
  • To improve and debug the service.
  • To display personalised advertising (for free-tier users) via Google AdSense. We do not sell your data directly to advertisers.
  • To comply with legal obligations.

Legal basis (GDPR): contract performance (account and service), legitimate interest (security, service improvement), consent (advertising cookies), and legal obligation.

4. Cookies

We use the following types of cookies:

  • Essential cookies: session tokens required for authentication. These cannot be disabled.
  • Advertising cookies (optional): Google AdSense sets cookies to deliver and measure personalised ads on free accounts. These are only active if you consent. Pro subscribers do not see ads.

You can manage or withdraw your cookie consent at any time via the cookie banner or your browser settings.

5. Third-party services

  • The Movie Database (TMDB): we use the TMDB API to retrieve movie and TV show information, poster images and metadata. TMDB has its own Privacy Policy.
  • Google AdSense: delivers ads to free-tier users. Google may use cookies to personalise ads. See Google's Privacy Policy.
  • Google OAuth / Apple Sign In: optional sign-in providers. We only receive the data described in section 2.
  • Stripe: payment processor for Pro subscriptions. See Stripe's Privacy Policy.
  • Neon (PostgreSQL) / Render: our database and backend infrastructure providers, located in the EU/US.

6. International data transfers

Movexa is operated from Portugal (EU). Your data may be processed by our infrastructure providers (Render, Neon) in the United States. Where we transfer data outside the EU/EEA, we rely on Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs) or other lawful transfer mechanisms approved by the European Commission. By using Movexa, you acknowledge that your data may be transferred internationally.

7. Data retention

We retain your data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we delete your personal data within 30 days, except where we are required to retain it by law (e.g., billing records for 7 years under Portuguese/EU law).

8. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the following rights:

EU / EEA (GDPR)

  • Access — request a copy of the data we hold about you.
  • Rectification — correct inaccurate data.
  • Erasure — request deletion of your data ("right to be forgotten").
  • Portability — receive your data in a machine-readable format.
  • Object / Restrict — object to or restrict certain processing.
  • Withdraw consent — for advertising cookies, at any time.
  • Complaint — lodge a complaint with the Portuguese DPA (CNPD) at cnpd.pt or your local supervisory authority.

California residents (CCPA / CPRA)

  • Know — request disclosure of the categories and specific pieces of personal information we collect.
  • Delete — request deletion of your personal information.
  • Correct — request correction of inaccurate personal information.
  • Opt-out of sale/sharing — we do not sell personal information. We share data with Google AdSense for advertising purposes, which may qualify as "sharing" under CPRA. You may opt out via the cookie banner.
  • Non-discrimination — we will not discriminate against you for exercising your rights.

Brazil (LGPD)

  • You have the right to access, correct, delete, and port your data, as well as to revoke consent and lodge complaints with the ANPD.

Other regions

Regardless of where you are located, you may always contact us to access, correct or delete your data. We will respond within 30 days.

9. Children

Movexa is not intended for children under 13 (or under 16 in some EU member states). We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with their data, contact us immediately and we will delete it.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by updating the date at the top of this page and, where required by law, by email or in-app notice. Continued use of Movexa after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
